A cash management system is highly important and is one of the basic priorities for a retailer to run his/her business successfully. A Pos system is an efficient and highly popular cash management system nowadays that is used by many retailers all over the world. A pos system is made up of different parts. A Point of Sale system generally comes with or without pos software. Here is a short description of pos hardware one needs for a retail establishment. Pos computer: The CPU of the computer which runs the pos software is basic pos equipment. This computer may or may not have a conventional OS but it is always recommended to use a pos computer for sales transactions, inventory management and reporting. Cash drawer: The second important pos equipment is the cash drawer. It is used for storing cash, receipts of credit card transactions and other important documents. A pos cash drawer is not like ordinary drawers. It opens after receiving a signal from the pos computer or printer. Pole display: Though not essential pos hardware, a pole display is a customer information system that displays the transaction details to the customer over the counter. Sometimes, a pole display can also be used to display a promotional message or advertisement. Pos monitor: A retailer can install any type of pos monitor; either a conventional CRT monitor or LCD screen monitor according to their budget. A monitor is only needed to display the operations and transactions to the retailer. Some retailers also prefer to install touch screen pos monitors instead of conventional types associated with a keyboard and mouse for faster and easier actions. Pos keyboard: If a conventional type of pos monitor is used along with a keyboard and mouse, a pos keyboard will be needed. For cash management services, any type of keyboard can perform these tasks efficiently. Barcode scanner: At the counter, during sales transactions a hand held barcode scanner is immensely useful to register the price and product details to the pos system. This activity helps in keeping track of the inventory and maintains the sales database for after sales customer service. Credit card swiping machine: Many customers nowadays prefer cashless shopping to ensure safety and security. In lieu of cash, they prefer to make payments through credit cards and a credit card swiping machine is needed for such transactions. Printer: This is used for printing receipts of bills and payments.
